Tidbits of Information from Petie, Shery's Son
Tracy,
Just got a letter from Petie, thank God. He sounds positive. I was so worried that he would sound different, but he is still the dreamer that we sent away. After calculating his pay, he is looking forward to a new car, a Caribbean cruise and a big parade with complimentary hotel accommodations and ribbons on his chest. I think he is thinking about a game show or something. I just love him!
He said that his camp (unnamed) is about 24 miles from the boarder and they are looking at the sand berm that protects them from enemy fire. The accommodations are humble tents but they do have electricity most of the time. He said that he is proud to be there but it "sucks."
Besides cigarettes (ugh) he said that sunglasses or a goggle type sunglass similar to swim goggles would be great. He also asked for envelopes, and from what he wrote on, I guess paper would be good. We have made labels that we will attach to the envelopes to make things a bit easier for him.
I don't think that he has received any of our mail or packages yet. He did mention that he received a letter from a friend that was mailed 2 weeks before he left. One thing that some might want to think about is call forwarding. I would be heartbroken if I missed Pete's call, so I have all calls forwarded to my cell phone.
Many thanks and keep up the fine work that you are doing by keeping all of us connected. Sheryl
Note from Tracy: I do have parents that have mailed cigarettes, and I did too. They were not restricted in my Marine's zip code. It's taking 7 days for Marines to receive letters, and 21-28 days for packages. Their letters home are taking from 2 to 2 1/2 weeks. The few phone calls that have been reported are being received between midnight and 8:00 a.m. with most of them between 4 a.m. and 6 a.m.
