Operation Joplin Recruiters
$5,000 Fundraiser for two Marines impacted by Missouri tornado May 22, 2011

UPDATE June 22: Click here to read a recap of the support we received for this campaign as well as our trip to Joplin with the goods.

_________________________________________________________________

We're holding a fundraiser to collect $5000 to purchase household goods for a Marine Corps Recruiter from Joplin, Missouri. The Marine lost everything in his home except the kitchen table. He has a wife and three children. 100% of the donations will be dispersed as relief funds for the Recruiter and his family.

Collection Point Columbia Missouri Wednesday May 25

Please help spread the word to as many folks as you can; drop off is Wed May 25. We need help from Central Missouri please for a Marine family in need.

Your donations have already reached the point where we were able to pay the deposit and first months rent for the family on a new rental home for them. That's been taken care of and they are working toward making it a home now. Thank you! The Staff Sergeant is overwhelmed by the generosity.

COLLECTION TIMES: 8:30 AM to 7:00 PM Central Time
COLLECTION POINT: Marine Parents Corporate Office, 3208 LeMone Industrial Blvd, Columbia, MO 65201
COLLECTION PHONE: 573-449-2003.

This is a family of five; the father is a SSgt in the Marine Corps currently serving as a recruiter in Joplin, Missouri. He and his wife have three children: two teenage girls (ages 13 and 15) and a 5-year old boy.

Particularly the five year old boy is busy and needs lots to occupy him. He likes books and puzzles and all the other things a five year old boy likes to have.

CLOTHING For Kids:
The kids shop at Walmart and Target for clothing. Gift cards for either store are fine as there is another Walmart in town other than the one that blew down.

  • 15 Year Old Girl (Junior Sizes): Size 3/4 pants, shorts, skirts; Size Medium for shirts; 34B bra size, size 5 on panties, shoe sizes 7 1/2 - 8. She does wear pajamas.
  • 13 Year Old Girl: Size small for shirts; Size 1 for pants, shorts, skirts; 32A bra size, size 10/11 in girls sizes, shoe sizes 5. She does wear pajamas.
  • 5 year old boy (just turned 5): size 5/6; shoe size 11.
  • Moms clothing sizes: 11/12 in pants, skirts, shorts, shirts, everything. 36C bra size. Shoe size 7 1/2 to 8. She does wear pajamas.
  • Dads clothing sizes: Pants size 36 (he's 5' 7"). Shirt sizes large.

They do not need kitchen table and chairs or dressers for the girls room.

The SSgt. was with the 2/6 and 1/6 and SOTG before his duty station as a recruiter.

We're working with the Marine Corps Leagues in both Columbia, MO and Jefferson City, MO to collect items throughout the day and make this happen. A special thank you to our Marine Corps League friends for stepping up to the plate quickly to spread the word!
