Marine Security Guard Battalion of MCCDC (MSGBn)
"In Every Clime and Place"
Commands: Marine Corps Combat Development Command
THIS IS THE NEW UNIT ID PAGE FOR MSGBn.
In February of 2006, the MSGBn fell under new command when the 4th MEB was deactivated. The MSGBn was reassigned to Marine Corps combat Development Command out of Quantico.
The primary mission of the Marine Security Guard is to provide internal security at designated U.S. diplomatic and consular facilities to prevent the compromise of classified material and equipment vital to U.S. national security. Under emergency circumstances, Marine Security Guards provide protection for U.S. citizens and government property located within designated diplomatic and consular premises.
Currently, more than 1,000 Marine Security Guards serve at nearly 140 diplomatic missions worldwide. These MSG detachments are trained and equipped to perform a variety of armed response roles and are the key to embassy security during crisis situations, as demonstrated in Beirut, Kenya, Tanzania, Saudi Arabia, Liberia, and Haiti.
The Marine Security Guard Battalion, headquartered in Quantico, Virginia, is responsible for the training, assignments, administration, logistical support and discipline of the Marines assigned to Marine Security Guard duty.
The Marine Security Guard Program in its current form has been in place since December 1948

Marine Family Readiness: Under Commandant Conway's guidance, the Marine Corps Family Readiness program has undergone some changes in 2008. Every battalion has a FRO (Family Readiness Officer) who is responsible for providing information to spouses, parents and family members of our deployed Marines. The KV or Key Volunteer program is being phased out.
FRO Structure: The primary source of unit/battalion information for spouses AND parents is the FRO and Unit Hotline. The FRO will work with FR Assistants, FR Advisors and FR Volunteers along with the senior command members to make up the new Family Readiness Command Team.
