Expeditionary Units: 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit
The MEU is an expeditionary intervention force with the
ability to move quickly on short notice, to wherever
needed to accomplish conventional or special operations.
The strength of the MEU (Special Operations Capable)
resides in the inherent combined arms capability while
operating from forward-deployed amphibious shipping.
In order to accomplish this mission, the MEU’s
continually train to maintain the required combat
readiness, while simultaneously fulfilling worldwide
training and contingency commitments. The 11th MEU has
completed several major deployments to the Western
Pacific, Indian Ocean, and Arabian Gulf. It has
participated in numerous training exercises/operations
from the coast of California to the shores of Somalia, and
as far inland as Bujumbura, Burundi, in Central Africa.
The 11th MEU is composed of a Logistics Group (CLB-11),
a 3rd MAW unit (HMM-166 Rein), and a Battalion Landing
Team (made up of an infantry unit supported by units of
Tanks, AAVs, Recon, Combat Engineers, LAR, and artillery)

Marine Family Readiness: Under Commandant Conway's guidance, the Marine Corps Family Readiness program has undergone some changes in 2008. Every battalion has a FRO (Family Readiness Officer) who is responsible for providing information to spouses, parents and family members of our deployed Marines. The KV or Key Volunteer program is being phased out.
FRO Structure: The primary source of unit/battalion information for spouses AND parents is the FRO and Unit Hotline. The FRO will work with FR Assistants, FR Advisors and FR Volunteers along with the senior command members to make up the new Family Readiness Command Team.
