24th Marine Expeditionary Unit (24th MEU)
2nd Marine Division ~ No Regiment
Expeditionary Units: 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit

The Marine Expeditionary Unit is a Marine Air Ground Task Force. With a strength of about 2,200 personnel, the MEU consists of a command element, a reinforced infantry battalion called a battalion landing team (reinforced with an artillery battery, amphibious assault vehicle platoon, combat engineer platoon, light armored reconnaissance company, an M1A1 Main Battle Tank platoon and a reconnaissance platoon), a composite helicopter squadron and a MEU service support group, CLB-24. The mission of the MEU is to provide geographic combatant commanders with a forward-deployed, rapid-response force capable of conducting conventional amphibious and selected maritime special operations at night or under adverse weather conditions from the sea, by surface and/or by air while under communications and electronics restrictions. Commanded by a colonel, the MEU is employed to fulfill routine forward deployments with U.S. Naval Fleets in the Mediterranean, the Western Pacific and periodically, the Atlantic and Indian Oceans. The MEU is deployed on three Naval amphibious ships and can operate in virtually any environment.

Marine Family Readiness: Under Commandant Conway's guidance, the Marine Corps Family Readiness program has undergone some changes in 2008. Every battalion has a FRO (Family Readiness Officer) who is responsible for providing information to spouses, parents and family members of our deployed Marines. The KV or Key Volunteer program is being phased out.
FRO Structure: The primary source of unit/battalion information for spouses AND parents is the FRO and Unit Hotline. The FRO will work with FR Assistants, FR Advisors and FR Volunteers along with the senior command members to make up the new Family Readiness Command Team.
