- September 23, 2003: From Jackie, Marine Mom to Justin from Kingston, MO
(1st BN 7th Marines C co. WPNS) Got a call from Justin at 6am 9-23-03...he said Charlie co was the last to leave Najaf...That ALL of the 1/7 is now in Kuwait
- September 23, 2003: From Linda, Marine Mom to Darin from Joppa, MD
(1/7 Charlie Company) Oh, Happy Day!!! Charlie Company has made it into Kuwait. I got a phone call from our son, Darin, who is in the infantry in 1/7, Charlie Company. He sounded very tired. They had traveled by (transportation edited out) to get to Kuwait. They are being housed in air conditioned tents with bunk beds. They had been sleeping on desks in Najaf! They should be there about a week and a half the most. It is too hot for PT or any other training. There CO said they must REST! He sounded in very good spirits and was sharing his plans for his 96 in San Diego and then his 30 days at home. I'm already thinking about signs and parties! God bless you all and may your reunions be so sweet. Thanks again for this very blessed site. It has been such a comfort and God send! Linda (A very proud marine mom)
- September 21, 2003: From Kelly, Marine Mom to Travis from Fort Worth, TX
(7th Mar Trk Det) Travis called on Saturday (9/20) to say that he should be back on base in CA on Thursday. He is just waiting for his ride to pick him up and fly him home.
- September 20, 2003: From Carol, Marine Mom to Chris from Folsom, CA
(1/7) My son Chris called this morning (Sat., 9/20), about 4 a.m. He said he had arrived in Kuwait by (means of transportation edited out). What great news! He was very happy to finally be there. Everyone is in good spirits. He has already had a hamburger and said it tasted great. He said that they will probably be home in 1 1/2 to 2 weeks. Looking forward to a safe homecoming for all of them. It's been a long nine months. Carol
- September 20, 2003: From Lisa, Marine Mom to Jesse from Sahuarita, AZ
(1/7 - 29Palms) Jesse just called from Kuwait (9:15 a.m. Pacific Time, 09/20). They arrived there a few hours ago. He said the feeling of being there is "incredible" and he had already eaten pizza! He said they will be in the states in a week or week-and-a-half; they're just "waiting for a ride". He sounded HAPPY!
- September 11, 2003: From Sheri, Marine Mom to Amanda from Branson, MO
(1st MEF, HMM 268 flight line) We got a call from Amanda today. She's in Kuwait and they are finishing up to come home. Homecoming was originally scheduled for the (mid) of Sept. and now is moved (up a few days). She's with HMM 268 Flight Line/1st MEF out of Camp Pendleton. They are being flown into (a California) Air Force Base and will be (taken) back to Pendleton 3-4 hours after they go thru customs, inspections, weapon check-in, etc... This is the latest but we have learned that it too could change. We have to be flexible! Our prayers continue for all our Marines still over there and other places around the world and their families for the huge sacrifice! Sheri
- August 29, 2003: From Kathy, Marine Mom to Brandon from Olathe, KS
(3rd Battalion, 5th Marines) Official news today from the KV. All of the 3/5 have arrived safely in Kuwait and are waiting for their flights. Brandon called me last night at 8:30 p.m. "Mom, we're sitting on a highway in Kuwait." What a wonderful sound that was. He sounded really worn out, but very up. They had driven all night to get there. Took 12 hours. They were laughing and joking around. What a wonderful sound. They are on such a high right now. Don't know yet when they are coming back. Official word is sometime between the 4th and the 14th, so not far off. Thank you again for this wonderful web site. It was much comfort these past 7 months just to read what other people were going to through and what they had heard from their Marine. Semper Fi.
- July 28, 2003: From Carol, Marine Mom to Chris from Folsom, CA
(1st Bn, 7th Marines) We received a call from Chris today. It was wonderful hearing his voice again. He is doing well. They finally got a swamp cooler so they have a little bit of relief from the heat. They still are only getting about 3-4 hours of sleep each night. He has heard that it's possible they may have a flight date back to the U.S. of Aug 28 from Kuwait. Other than that, everyone seems to be doing fine and he wants me to send more chips and dip.
- July 14, 2003: From Pam, Marine Mom to Justin from Avon Park, FL
(2/5) Got a call from Justin this morning. He sounded great and we were able to talk about 10 minutes. The phone reception was great. He's in a compound about 12 miles south of Baghdad. He had a 2-minute shower today; used a bucket and a canteen lid. He said they don't need anything right now exept prayers. I could hear gunfire in the background. He said his platoon is in better spirits because they think they might be coming home next month. He was injured the latter part of May and was flown to Kuwait. He had shrapnel in his eye from a round that backfired. He spent a week in the hospital, then went back to his platoon. He had blurred vision for a while, but is fine now. At that time, he was able to call me from the hospital as well.
- July 4, 2003: From Lynda, Marine Mom to Steven from Hanford, CA
(15th MEU) I received a phone call last night (July 3) from my son Steven who is at Pearl Harbor. Technically, the USS Rushmore, Duluth and Tarawa are back in the United States. The cell phone works, and it was so nice to talk without it costing $3 per minute. They are scheduled to arrive at Camp Pendelton July 12. Then, on to Twentynine Palms. For those of us thankful for the phone call "Mom, I'm in the United States" my heart goes out to those who will not be receiving this phone call. My son lost his best friend in Iraq and his mom will not get that phone call. I grieve for her and other Marine Moms. God Bless America, especially on this special day of the year (July 4th).
- June 30, 2003: From Kathryne, Marine Mom to Rodney from Temperance, MI
(Weapons) My 12 year old daughter recieved the following letter from her brother last week. "Hey Haley how's it going? I wanted to write you and tell you happy birthday, I wish I could be there with you and I hope you get everything you want. I wish I was there, I love you you and I miss you and I hope to see you soon. Love Rodney PS Thank you for your picture with the calendar." He wrote this while still being shot at. And he included a $20.00 bill, his sister could not believe he took the time to wish her a happy birthday. She said, "I am keeping this forever." Rodney is currently out of Iraq and back in Kuwait waiting to be deployed home by 15-August. He is in his final year of 4 year term. I am very proud of him as well as all our Marines.
- June 25, 2003: From Lynda, Marine Mom to Steven from Hanford, CA
(15th MEU) Per latest e-mail received 6.25.03 from Cpl son on USS Rushmore. Rushmore/Tarawa/and Deluth due into Pendelton for beach landing 7.12.03, with transport of vehicles onto 29 Palms. They had warm welcome in Austrailia. Hopefully on final leg home.

- June 15, 2003: From Tina, Marine Mom to Adam from Melrose Park, IL
(A Co. 1-4) Well, I've finally started getting e-mails from my son. Of course they are always vague as to where he is and what he's doing but it's good to hear from him. He was originally supposed to be heading home the beginning of June (didn't happen), then it was July, then late July early August, now it's September (maybe). He seems to be handling it better than I am. Everyone keep praying!!!
- June 10, 2003: From Susan, Marine Mom to Douglas from Thomasville, NC
(3/2 Weapons Co) This past Sunday I verified our son was to be coming home to Lejeune on June 22 or 23, oh how happy I was. Today we recieved information that our son's ship, USS KEARSARGE had recieved orders to assist American citizens in trouble in the West African countries of Liberia and Mauritania. We have not talked to our son in over a week but I know he would tell me this is what he has trained for and this is his job. Our homecoming will be delayed for a little while longer but I know he is doing what he wants to so I can wait. Please keep in your prayers our young men and women serving all over the world that each and every one of them will come home safely to their loved ones. I am so PROUD to be a MARINE MOM. SEMPER FI.

- June 10, 2003: From Pam, Marine Mom to Brad from Summit, MS
(3/4 H&S Co. M/T)Hi Tracy, Just thought you would like to know since the hotline has not been updated since the 27th of May that the Marines in the rear party are scheduled to arrive at 29 Palms on Thursday, June 12 at 8:00 p.m. We've been told that the time could vary a little but the flight # is 95357 for 12 June. My husband and I will be flying out tomorrow for the homecoming of our son.
- June 7, 2003: From Janice, Marine Mom to William from Bellingham, WA
(1st Battalion, 2nd Marines) My son called on Saturday morning and said they were in Spain for a little R&R. They went to the water slides and the beautiful beaches on Friday. He said it is beautiful over there. All sounded well with him and he is looking forward to coming home. He said he got his leave orders but they weren't allowed to book their flights home yet. His leave is due to begin on July 3rd. His ship (Ponce) is due back at Camp Lejeune on June 22nd. Sgt. Barr from Camp Lejeune called me to verify this information so our flights and rooms are all booked for the trip to welcome our troops back home. Hope to see a lot of you there. I have my Marine Moms tag all printed. Take Care and God Bless all of you.
- June 6, 2003: From Erika, Marine Sister to Bryan from Alma, MI
(1st Marine Div 3rd ABN H&S Company) My big brother called us 06/05/03 from ship. It was so awesome to hear his voice, he said they are on their way to Australia and should port in the states by 07/24. On the 3rd ABN website it states they will stop in Sydney, Carnis and Pearl Harbor and should be back by 07/26. I don't care if it's the 24th or 26th, just as long as that ship keeps full throttle ahead. I wish all the Marines & their families (the entire military actually) nothing but good wishes, good luck, safe return, God Bless and Thank you. . .and to borrow a staement of Pride & Honor SEMPER FI!
- May 29, 2003: From Patti, Marine Mom to Brandon from Massillon, OH
(HQ 1st Battalion 5th Marines) I finally, finally got my phone call!! Brandon called me this morning at work and we were able to talk for about 20 minutes. The connection was poor and we had to repeat ourselves a lot, but it was so good to hear his voice after 4 1/2 months. He is in Kuwait and waiting for a flight home. They are supposed to leave for Camp Pendleton between June 5-9 and he should be home in Ohio shortly after that. I can't wait! He said he got tons of mail and packages. Most of the time they were in the middle of nowhere with no phones, and he didn't know if he would be able to call again before they leave Kuwait, but said he would call from California when they arrive. YEAH!!!!
- May 26, 2003: From Judy, Marine Mom to David from Duncannon, PA
(2nd MEB 3/2 LIMA CO.) I received the best news a Mother can ever hear, "I'm on my way home". I feel like the luckiest person on earth. I still won't feel completely whole again until I have my arms around him and make sure he is okay. My heart goes out to all parents of anyone deployed to an area of war or conflict. I never thought I would get through this, he is 19 and fresh out of Parris Island on Oct 11th. We received many letters and and I just got a call today from the ship he is coming home on. He just received the 2 packages I sent to him over a month ago. He can never give us information on where he is, but we are guessing the week of the 20th for their return. Still no word on the hotline for the 2nd MEB but can't wait for the day. He also told us that we will not be able to greet them at the ship, they are driving the humvees home from port.
- May 17, 2003: From Lori, Marine Mom to Brandon from Spring Hill, TN
(3/5) My son Brandon called last night, May 17 at 11:30 PM. It was the first call I have received since he was deployed. He was originally part of the 2/5. In his first and only letter to me he said his address was with the 1 MEF Security Forces. He now says he was assigned to the 3/5. He says he expects to be home by July, August at the latest. Says he has lost a lot of weight. Says one of the Marines was shot by a sniper last week. No more details on that. The phone connection was surprisingly good. He could not talk much. He has not received any of the packages or letters sent to him yet. It was so good to hear his voice - I can't wait to see him again.
- May 16, 2003: From Jody, Marine Mom to Frank from Orlando, FL
(2nd MEB 1/2) We received a phone call yesterday from our son Frank. He's on board the Ponce in Kuwait. He couldn't tell us any dates over the phone. I shared the information we've gotten from this terrific website. He is just receiving mail from April. Apparently over a ton was delivered to the ship the end of this week. Better late than never. He has a few stitches but he's alive and well and very anxious to come home. We want very much to meet him when the ships land. I'm hoping someone will have some official news soon so we can make plans. Thanks so much to everyone who contributes to this website; it kept our family going over these last 5 months. Our prayers are with all your Marines.
- May 16, 2003: From Janice, Marine Mom to William from Bellingham, WA
(A Co 1st BN 2nd Mar) What a glorius, glorius day this is. I thank the world of technology and the creation of three way calling. My son called my home this morning and my daughter patched him through to me at the office. He sounds so good. This was the first time that I heard his voice since they left Camp Lejeune in January. He is back on ship again. He went over on the USS Portland (which is back home for repairs) so I don't know what ship he is coming home on. He said he couldn't tell me over the phone but he now has access to email so he will send the details that way. I am busy fund raising now so we can go back to North Carolina to welcome him home. I thank God for this wonderful support site. Reading other letters from other Marines really helped me get through the day when I wasn't hearing from my own Marine. After my son hung up the phone this morning I couldn't do anything but cry after months of trying to stay strong, now I can't stop smiling...Thank you all...Janice, a very PROUD Marine Mom
- May 16, 2003: From Janet, Marine Mom to Corey from Missoula, MT
(Kilo Co. Weapons Plt. 3/4) I just heard some wonderful news! A staff sargeant from 29 Palms called this evening to let me know that if all goes as planned my son is scheduled to arrive back home Saturday. I called the number listed for 29 Palms and I was so thankful to the staff sargaent who called me back. We are all so thankful and excited. (edited: this is a very small group of Marines returning home this weekend; about 25.)
- May 16, 2003: From Kathy, Marine Mom to Dominic from Somers, CT
(2nd LAR, Bravo Co) My daughter-in-law received a call from Nic this morning. He will be flying back to Camp Lejuene, NC on Sunday, May 18th. He will be home before their first anniversay on May 30th, what a great present. The Advanced Party will be arriving in NC today (Friday), followed by the Stop Loss Marines and then by other members of the 2nd LAR. We can't wait to see him, he has been gone since early February! Soon I hope all other Marine families can feel the joy and happiness our family is feeling right now as "our boys" begin to make their way back to the States.
- May 14, 2003: From Judy, Marine Mom to Scott from Waxahachie, TX
(2 MEB, 1/10) Just received that great phone call. He's on board ship and happy to be there, getting good food, showers and a real pillow! They should be sailing soon and, after a stop in Spain around June 5 for a 3 day liberty, will be on their way! God bless them all!
- May 14, 2003: From Cora & James, Marine Parents to Jeff from Winchester, VA
(3/10 India) We received a call this morning around 5:45 am EST from our son, he has been in Kuwait for a few days. He said he was waiting on a flight date to return to the states. He said he would be home in time for his brother's high school graduation which is June 7. He could not give me his window date, but he said it would be before graduation. We were very glad to hear from him, as this is the first time we have spoke to him since his deployment Feb. 12. He also was able to call his Grandma and talk to her for a few minutes. He said he would call again when he was at the first airport to let us know when he would be home for sure, so we can go to NC to see him. I cannot wait.
- May 14, 2003: From Muriel, Marine Wife to Jason from Barrow, AK
(2ND MEB 3/2) My husband called this morning for the first time since March 12! He is doing fine and I talked to him for about 5 minutes. He is with 2nd MEB from Camp Lejeune North Carolina and is traveling back with the USS Bataan! He said he's going to get onto the Bataan tomorrow or the day after and that he'll be back around the 3rd week of June! I have called him mom to let him know, she is excited and can't wait to fly down to see him!! Thank you so much www.MarineParents.com for all your hard work on this website!
- May 14, 2003: From Patty, Marine Mom to Rickey from Greenville, MI
(2nd MEB 2/8) We finally got our "phone call!" He phoned this morning at 1 am. He said he had arrived in Kuwait 3 days prior. It was 8 am there and already over 100 degrees. He said they were looking at a window of 6/22-6/25 arrival back to Camp LeJeune.. He had recieved 2 of 8 care packages sent out from Michigan 4/21, but knows there are more for him aboard the ship. He sounded great and asked how many morel mushrooms we have found! Thanks Tracy
- May 14, 2003: From Katie, Marine Friend to Billy (Katie is from Riverside, CA)
(India Co 3/4) I recieved a phone call this morning at 7:30am PT from my boyfriend. He is still in Iraq and said that he still didn't know when he would be home but he was told the flight window was from (mid- to late-May). He said it was over 100 degrees but that he was okay. He sounded great, he was laughing and making jokes. He said they weren't really doing anything, just waiting for orders. So, hopefully they'll be home within the next 2 weeks!
- May 13, 2003: From Kathy, Marine Mom to Brandon from Olathe, KS
(H&S, 3d Battalion, 5th Marines) What a wonderful Mother's Day it was. I received a call from Brandon. He was calling me to wish me a Happy Mother's Day and to tell me how much he loved me and missed me. He sounded really good. Is anxious to get home to sleep in a bed. His bed has been the hood of his Humvee. Said they received word that they will be leaving June 7th. I hope this is true, but I know that is subject to change. That is just right around the corner. Can't wait to see him and hug him. If anyone else has heard news about the 3/5, let us know. The hotline number still says end of June or July, although that was updated 5/9/03 and Brandon said he heard that on 5/11. I guess we'll see. California, here I come. Semper Fi!
- May 13, 2003: From Dodi, Marine Mom to Jason from Reno, NV
(Bravo 1/4 Weapons Plt.) I received a letter from Jason today written on 4/15/03 from Baghdad. Mail was trickling in at that time but no packages. Also...last night Jason called his dad but for some reason called his cell phone instead of his home phone so his dad didn't get it until this morning. Jason said he was still in Iraq awaiting orders to move again. A Marine wife whose husband is with my son called me last Thursday to say a rep. from their unit contacted her giving approx. homecoming time around mid-June.
- May 13, 2003: From Tina, Marine Mom to Adam from N Tonawanda
(Aco. 2nd meb) I received the best Mothers Day Gift ever, a phone call from my son Adam. He is coming HOME!!! He is on the USS Ponce: He thinks he will be back in NCarolina aproximately June 25th. YEAHHHH! Just thought other Marine Moms would like to know!
- May 13, 2003: From Martin, Marine Dad to Marty
(2nd MEB 3/2 H & S Co) Our son called us at 2:33 am, we were very happy to hear his voice, and happier when he told us he was already on board on the USS. Kearsarge, he was doing well, and that it was nice to be sleeping on a fluffy matress, eating hot food and taking showers. Also said he lost a lot of weight, about 22 lbs, but he knows he will gain some back on the ship, will start working out again. Will be arriving to Norfolk, sometime late June. We sent him 8 packages since January, has only received 3, asked us to charge his calling card with some minutes, can't wait to see his baby sister and brother, and just to come home and share some stories with us.
- May 13, 2003: From Patricia & Joseph, Marine Parents to Christopher from Hillsborough NJ
(2 MEB 3/2 H&S Company) Just received this e-mail from our son's girlfriend, she is also a Marine 2Lt currently at the Basic School.
"Dear Mr and Mrs W--,
"Just got a phone call from Chris. It was so great to hear his voice. He just got on ship today and they will be leaving within a few days and expect to be back around the end of June. He is doing well, obviously very anxious to get home, and he apologizes for not getting a chance yet to call you guys also but his calling card ran out. He's also hoping to get an email account so hopefully he'll have access to email in the near future, although I have no idea when. Hope all is going well and I will keep you posted if I hear anything new.
"Love, Kate"
- May 12, 2003: From Susan, Marine Mom to Christopher from Huron, OH
(2/6 Echo Task Force Yankee) Hi Tracy! Thank you for a great web site..My son, Chris called me today! It's the first time I've heard him since March 20th, when they crossed the border. He sounded great but tired. Said they didn't have a shower for 52 days!! They arrived back in Kuwait earlier today and said they will probably be in the states in about 10 days. God Bless all our Marines!
- May 12, 2003: From Nancy, Marine Mom to Todd from Westport, CT
(3/7, Kilo Co from 29 Palms) Todd called at 3 AM on May 12 from (a town in Iraq) for 2 minutes. Second call in one month. We are truly fortunate since I see some parents just received their first call! Called to say the original date of end of June or July to arrive in the states was changed for those guys who are getting out of the Marines in September and he expected to be back by (mid-June) . Also said the Iraqis were treating them fine and appreciated the socks we sent. My heart is filled with joy but with sadness, yet pride for those parents whose sons will not be coming home at all. I understand, I lost my first husband in Vietnam. God Bless You. They will always be here with us in spirit and in our hearts.
- May 12, 2003: From Kathy, Marine Mom to Nicholas from Wichita Falls, TX
(2/8) Many of the families of the 2/8 are getting phone calls from their Marines. We got our call on Monday May 12 6 am CST. (From what Nicholas said, by today May 16 he) should be aboard the Saipan. He sounded wonderful and wanted news from home as mail for his unit is still MIA. He had heard "rumors" that any mail delivered over the last few weeks that was held in Kuwait due to the Marines heading south back to Kuwait has now been loaded about the ships for distribution. I (heard) the USS Kearsage got a huge mail drop yesterday. Our continued prayers for our Marines still in harms way and Godspeed to those coming home.
- May 11, 2003: From Jeff, Marine Brother from NY, NY
(3abbn 1st MarDiv, H&S) He called around 10:30 am Eastern time saying that he just left Baghdad, he is now in (another city in Iraq). He will come home by ship, expect to leave the Gulf on 05/15 and arrive Calif before the 4th of July. He will be in Kuwait in these two days.
- May 11, 2003: From Deb, Marine Mom to Noah from Somers, CT
Just had a call from the LCpl himself which made my already great Mother's Day just perfect. He's in Kuwait and will get on ship either tomorrow or the next day and expects to leave port on the 18th. They will stop at Malta for a day or two, but expect to be back home about June 22nd. And he expects back in Somers for early July. He did confirm that the picture from the NY Times was him and that he'll talk about some of that when he gets home. Said it was an intense and awful time. He still sounds a little tired, but is OK and eager to come home. He couldn't believe the mail and support he's received- He said- "people I don't even know wrote and sent things. It meant so much" He said they would get their own packages, take what they wanted and needed and then just shared with one another, making sure everybody had what they needed to have. He did say no more packages at this point, because they'll be on ship and there's no room. It was good just to hear his voice and to know he's safe and that they're all headed back home. And that's where we want them. So thank you all from him and from me. Love Deb
- May 11, 2003: From Nancy, Marine Mom to Juan from Stratford, CT
(2nd Batt-8th Marine H&S Co.) Received a call at 1:45 a.m. our time, from our son. The happiest Mother's Day ever! We hadn't talked to our son since March 8. He sounded really well, he said they were asked if any wanted to fly out, and he volunteered. He is in Kuwait now, has been there since Saturday. He gave us a date of May 18, he should be in Camp Lejeune. Thank You for this wonderful web site, without it, I probably would have gone insane. You are an Angel. And we need to continue to pray for all our troops. Semper Fi!!! God Bless America.
- May 11, 2003: From Sharen, Marine Mom to Andy from Westminster, CO
(3 MAW) I thought a call from Andy on Mother's Day was too much to even hope for but the phone rang at 11:00 am and I heard that wonderful "Hi, Mom!" He is in northern Kuwait. He finally received his 5 care packages all at once. Letters and postcards get through pretty fast but packages got backed up. His voice registered more upbeat on my "Mom-O-Meter" than when I talked to him last month. His "guestimate" of when they would come home was sometime between Aug and Feb. so I'm jealous of all you hearing "the end of the month" or "next month"! But I'm hanging in there and hoping things will change as so often happens with the Marines. It was just so good to hear his voice, especially on Mother's Day!
- May 11, 2003: From Mandi, Marine Fiance to David from Ithaca, NY
(3D AABN C. Co 1st Plt) I received a phone call from Dave yesterday morning and I was pretty shocked it was him! Two calls in a week is pretty exhilerating. They are still in central Iraq! He couldn't comment on where his exact location was, but he stated that he was occupying some military compound that they took over in weeks past. He will be arriving on the USS Cleveland that is set to come home in the later half of July, and basically they are just sitting tight with nothing really to do. He said it is getting really hot and miserable, but they are all hanging in there. They haven't been receiving mail in the last week, because they are suppose to push further south, so they are a little bummed without the candy, but are looking forward to coming home. Thanks for letting me share!
- May 11, 2003: From Lindsay, Marine Sister to Robert from Klamath Falls, OR
(Weapons 3/5) We received a call from Robert around 7:30 Sunday morning. We knew that about 2 weeks earlier he had received word that he would be awarded the Navy Achievement Medal for Valor in Combat. We were amazed to hear on Sunday that he would actually be getting the bronze star. He said that he heard that they may be coming back any time between 2 weeks from now and July, but that until he was on the plane back, it was still just a rumor. What an absolute answer to prayer to know that he will be coming home soon!
- May 10, 2003: From Carol ("Mops"), Marine Mom to Adam from Sun City West, AZ
(1/7 B. Co.) Received a call from my son Adam on 5/10 for Mother's Day. He is with the 1/7 out of 29 Palms, Ca. Such a wonderful surprise! 2nd. call. He sounded terrific. Hopes to come home in June but, who knows? He is in the southern part of Iraq at this time. Also, received our first letter on 5/12 since the war started. It was dated 4/15 but no postmark. I am so happy to have heard from Adam. God bless our troops and bring them home soon!

We talked to him for about 20 min. It was so good to hear his voice he said they will be leaving around the 20th of May and will take 40 days to get back to the states. This was the best Mother's Day gift; who could ask for anything more. God bless our Marines, and a job well done.

(2nd AABN Bravo Co. Det F.) Hello, Tracy! It is after 4 a.m. in Virginia Beach, Va. My son John Morrell just called. He could not get his fiance because she had to get a new cell phone. And wanted her to know that if the commanders wife sent email saying he will be home next week that it is NOT him, that others are coming home next week but that he would be home before end of month. And he did not say what others. He said, "We are somewhere in the middle of Iraq." I said, "Well, like between Baghdad and Kuwait?" He said,"Umm well yea, southern Iraq. Can't say exactly on phone." He said he would call his fiance as soon as he can when he has exact date. Yes they have gotten mail and packages lately but not in past week.

He also said the window to fly back to the states is May 20, 21, 22, and 23rd. He said the have to all be back by May 23rd. Jeremy said he received 15 care packages over the last two weeks. It was good to know that it all was not a waste after all. Jeremy asked us to pass along a message to one of his friends parents Roger and Pat that he sees Drew every day and he is doing real good. Jeremy said they are not doing anything at this time and that the place where they were staying was a CRAP HOLE. He said he loved us all and thanks for all the prayers over the last four months. Everyone get your plane tickets our BOYS are coming home soon. Just before Jeremy got off he wished his Mother a Happy Mother's Day.

They have been receiving mail and care packages. The batallion has been hearing they will be back in the States by the end of the month! YEAH! He sounded great, and had a total of 10 minutes to visit with us. Said he has many stories to tell us upon his return. He also said they are still planning to go to Okinawa (sp) but may be delayed a little. They have also been told they will have three weeks leave upon their return. It was so wonderful to hear his voice. A Mother's Day prayer answered a little early!

Some say June and some say July, and then there are those who say it could be longer. Have been told when they return stateside that they will have 96 hours liberty, then back to work for 1 week, then they will be allowed to take 21 days of leave.
Web Author's Note: Please call the hotline number for an update from Col. Hummer, 1-800-759-7602, then press 6. I'm hoping to get a call from my son, same unit, and my question to him will be whether all 3/4 companies (India, Kilo, Lima, and Weapons) are still together or not.
- May 8, 2003: From Jon, Marine Dad to Garon from Rancho Santa Margarita, CA
(India CO 3/4 Javelins) Yesterday, Thursday 5/8/03 I received a letter from my son, Garon of India CO 3/4 Javelins, dated April 16th. At the time of the letter, he said he was in the middle of Baghdad, securing a medical facility, but he wasn't sure where. He also said that and I quote, "I got a lot of letters in the last week or so. It made me happy to have so many letters to read." He said he got the first batch of letters the night his unit crossed the Tigris river in the outskirts of Baghdad. He mentioned that Kilo CO was involved in a patch of resistance on the other side of the river. He said all he heard all night was the booms, bangs and cracks from artillery, mortars and rifles.
He also said that he had heard that they were heading back to Kuwait in a week from the date of the letter and would be back before June. On the way back to Kuwait they were going to do peace keeping along the way.
He called on the 25th of April and mentiond that he was south of Baghdad and just 5 to7 days from Kuwait and heard that the return date was the 15th of May.
- May 8, 2003: From Vickie, Marine Mom to Corey from Danbury, CT
(1ST FSSG) I received a phone call from my son yesterday. He was in Kuwait dropping off some Marines that were on their way back home. His company has begun to bring supplies back to the ships- not a quick process. He has been stationed in Iraq, south of Baghdad, and will likely be staying there until it is his turn to come home. He said his target date is August 1. He said it is VERY hot there-over 100 degrees. He actually sounded pretty good, considering he is going on an average of 3-4 hours of sleep each day. Has received lots of mail and packages and to keep it coming. Most of the Iraqi population he is seeing are pro American, waving, giving thumbs up and cheering. Keep praying for all out Troops and God Bless America.
- May 7, 2003: From Kari, Marine Friend to Antonio from Oceanside, CA
(4th LAR Alpha Co) Hi! I received a phone call from my boyfriend last week. He was doing fine and was told that they would be home sometime before July 4th, but wasn't sure of an actual date yet. His spirits were up, though he said he was tired of sitting on his bum all day. Said to tell everyone back home thank you for all the support and prayers, for they are what keep all the troops going out there. It was great to hear his voice again. I also want to express a heartfelt "Thank You" for all of the wonderful information, stories and pictures that you have shared.

- May 5, 2003: From Christy, Marine Fiance to Steven from Pasadena, TX
(Kilo 3/4) Thank you very much for having this site. Even though I am a "fiance" not a mom it has been very informative. I was curious if you know anything about a discount on plane tickets or how to wave the fee for advanced purchase. Steven has gotten to call me but he does not have an offical date so I don't know if I should buy a plane ticket. Thanks again and if you find anything out let me know!
- May 5, 2003: From Janee, Marine Wife to Casey from Redlands, CA
(Lima Co, 3/4) I received a voice mail today from Casey and I really couldn't understand much except "still in Iraq" and "should be home in a few weeks". His parents got a call as well and were able to talk to him for a few minutes. They said he couldn't say where he was but he should be back in Kuwait in a few days. He also told them that he though he'd be back (to California) in a few weeks. I heard rumors as well that 3/4 will still be going to Okinawa as scheduled in August. I sure hope not!
- May 4, 2003: From Jean, Marine Mom to Tom from Upper Sandusky, OH
(2nd MEB 2nd CEB 8th regiment) I received a call Sunday, May 4th from my son. I hadn't heard from him since he was wounded and got to call on March 30 from a hospital in Kuwait. We got to talk for about 10 minutes, which wasn't long enough, but wonderful anyway. He sounded great and said that he's proud of what they've done. He told me that he's not had a shower in over a month and that he has absolutely NOTHING because his pack exploded when it was hit sometime during a firefight. It didn't seem to bother him much, he's just glad to be heading home. He said his unit would be loading back onto the Kearsarge in the next couple of weeks and would be home by the end of June! Just about my whole family is planning to be there when he gets back to NC. It's going to be a sight to behold! God bless our Marines! Love to everyone, Jean, Ohio Marine Mom
- May 4, 2003: From Dewey, Marine Dad to Daniel from Claremore, OK
(15th MEU 2/1 MAR Echo Co) I have had several emails over the past 3 days. My son Daniel is back onboard the USS Rushmore and at sea now somewhere in the Gulf. Daniel was in combat in Iraq from the first day of the war til the last and should be home on July 13th! Mail, packages are very slow to get to his locations but hopefully he will get his soon. He is very upbeat and proud of his service in Iraq. I have not spoken with him on the phone since early January, hopefully he will get a port visit soon.
- May 4, 2003: From Jamie, Wife to Jeromy from North Hollywood, CA
(2nd BN 5th MAR 81Plt) I received a phone call from my husband today. His platoon is now "policing" in (a city in Iraq). (The connection was bad and he didn't spell the name of the city, so I Acould be wrong.) They have showers now and a PX. He said they ought to return around mid-July. They have also begun to receive packages. My first one took about two months to reach him! Keep praying. They'll be home soon.
- May 3, 2003: From Diana, Marine Mom to Byron from Mesquite, TX
(A Company, 1st Radio Battalion now with 3/5) Our Marine called home for the first time since March 6, when they allowed Red Cross to notify him and have him call (from Kuwait at that time) following his grandfather's death. My husband was home to take the call, thank the Lord, even though I was not. He sounded very up, happy to have showers and hot food again after weeks and months in the field, low on water and food often. He is in the 1st Radio Battalion but their group is now with the 3rd Battalion, 5th Marines in a base camp south of Baghdad. He's received very little mail; reported there are several warehouses of mail and packages just for the 3/5 waiting to be delivered. The call was brief, a very poor connection, breaking up a lot. Said he had stories to tell of "guardian angels" during the war experience. Thinks he will return to USA July or August. We have still received none of the letters he's written us. So encouraging to read the reports of other Marines supporters on this web site. THANK YOU!
- May 3, 2003: From Deborah, Marine Mom to Patrick from Lakewood, IL
(3/7 Kilo Company) I received a call from my son Patrick, 3BN/7 Marine,Kilo last nite that he's coming home by the end of next week. Evidently the Marines that were extended are being sent home. I don't know who or how many are coming with him. The connection was bad but I just wanted to let everyone know that a few of them are 29Palms bound. God Bless all of our Marines.
- May 2, 2003: From Mandi, Marine Fiance from Ithaca, NY
(3d aabn C. Co) Got a phone call on 2 May! 3D AABN is still in central Iraq. Basically they are policing and securing miliitary compounds. When I asked when they would be coming home, he said that some of his batallion is flying home, and some are "boating" home. Those flying should arrive in June, while those, like my fiance, will arrive in middle JULY. He sounded great, yet pretty exhausted. He did say that he is receiving too many packages, and he has to give all of his stuff away! WHICH IS SOOO GREAT! But he said stay by the phone because he will call the next chance he got.
- May 2, 2003: From Charlene, Marine Aunt to Justin from Hillsville, VA
(2nd Maint. BN B'Co) My sister recieved a letter from her son today. He said they had just gotten word that they should get to come home in 60-90 days. He also said that they are needing 300 Marines to volunteer to stay longer and if they don't get that many volunteers they will have to pick who stays. He sounded very upbeat and ready to come home. The letter was postmarked April 19th.
- May 2, 2003: From Lori, Marine Stepmom to Rodney from Indianapolis, IN
(H&S) My stepson Rodney's wife called her around 2am our time to tell her they would be leaving from "over there" the 25th of May. He is with the 1st Marine's 3rd AAV Battalion. Knowing he will be home in a month or so is good enough for us!!
- May 2, 2003: From Melody, Marine Mom to Brandon from Freeport, IL
(1st FSSG) I received a call from my son today. He is in the 1st FSSG. He said they haven't been receiving their mail, so he has a new address for it to go to. He was really depressed because he thought they would be coming home around June, but found out they won't be coming home (until) at least August. It was real depressing to me too, but I am glad for all of the other Marine parents, wifes, husbands, and family members who hear their Marines will be coming home soon.
- May 2, 2003: From Anna, Marine Friend to Jesse from Linden, Cleveland, GA
(CSSB-18 Ammo) I got a call today from Kuwait. I was glad to hear they were out of Iraq. He sounded ok, just ready to come home. He told me they were waiting for word to come home. They don't know when but don't think it will be too much longer. He said they are asking for volunteers to stay. I was so happy to hear from him. He said they thought they would be on a plane home by now, but that from everything they are hearing it shouldn't be long. He didn't give me any day or month so as not to get my hopes up. We can only pray it will be soon. Here are some photos of CSSB-18: Click Here.
- May 2, 2003: From Kathy, Marine Mom to Dominic from Somers, CT
(2 LAR Bravo Company) We got a 5 minute phone call from Nic today and he said that he hopes to be home by end of May. He said that he is out of danger and they just recently had their first shower since leaving Kuwait! His wife, Abbie, is staying with us so we were both able to talk to him. It was so great to hear his voice, he sounded upbeat. Now we just need to wait to hear from KV as to when he will actually be home. We are hoping it will be in time for their first anniversary on May 30th! Hope all other Marine families begin to hear from their special Marine and we get the all home safetly as soon as possible.

- April 30, 2003: From Heather, Marine Fiance to Shon from Gainesville, FL
(3rd AABN, 1st Marine Division, Echo Co) Shon has called me a few times in the past 2 weeks, the last time he called he stated that they were in Southern Iraq, and had been there for a while. That they were awaiting word to move back into Kuwait for the last leg of their deployment. He also said that they were hoping to be back home in CA at 29 palms by mid to late May. But as we all know the Marine Corps changes their plans at least a million times before the final plan is made. He sounded very positive, and his spirits remained high. Im just keeping my fingers crossed for mid May.
- April 30, 2003: From Stacy, Marine Mom to Brandon from Sulphur, LA
(3rd AA BN Echo Co.) Just wanted to let everyone know that Brandon called home yesterday morning, I had already gone to work and missed it but he did talk to his brother which was great. - April 29, 2003: From Sarah, Marine Sister to John of Kent, WA
(1st LAR, 1st Marine Division from Camp Pendleton) My sister-in-law received an e-mail from her KV contact today containing an e-mail forwarded from the commanding officer of 1st LAR, 1st Marine Division from Camp Pendleton, and she passed the information on to me. It was dated April 29, and to briefly summarize, ALL companies from 1st LAR are at an assembly area in Southern Iraq. They are getting showers and a few hot meals, doing laundry in buckets, and are cleaning/repairing their weapons and vehicles. They are also getting tons of mail (literally hundreds of boxes) that has finally caught up with them. According to the e-mail, each Marine is also getting a 1 minute phone call on the satellite phone, and there is some very limited e-mail access on a single line. There is no definite schedule for return yet, but the planners in Kuwait are working on it and more details should be available soon. At this point, apparently, those affected by the stop-loss order and those who missed Special Duty school, as well as a small Advance Party to prepare for the battalion's return to Camp Pendleton should be among the first to return home.
Web Author's Note: For more information about the KVNetwork, please see "What is KVN".

- April 28, 2003: From Terri, Marine Mom to Josh of Broken Arrow, OK
(3rd AABn, 1st Mar Div out of 29 Palms) My son called my parents yesterday (28 April). His group of Marines are currently sitting in As Suwayrah(sp?) awaiting transportation for the vehicles and large equipment. They have already ...(and) are sitting in a pretty secure site surrounded by Army units. When the vehicles are headed toward the port for loading on the ship, the personnel will move to Kuwait for their final leg before redeployment back to 29 Palms. Of course they never know anything for sure, plans change like the sand dunes, but the tentative date is mid- to late May back in CA. No word on how they will be transported to the US.
- April 27, 2003: From Debbie, Marine Mom to Ryan of Simi Valley, CA
(4th LAR Alpha Co) HI! We received a phone call from my son yesterday, Sunday April 27th! It was 8:30 AM PST. He was calling from Iraq and stated he only had a minute and 30 seconds. It sounded like a satellite phone. He said that he was doing "GREAT" and that he was happy to tell us they had no causalities. He is with the 4th LAR -Alpha Company out of Camp Pendleton. The most exciting news was he said they would begin preparation for home between May 15th and June 1st!!!! He had received mail and packages and said "Please send more". When I asked what he needed he said "FOOD". After all of what we have been through, all of us military families, not to mention what our sons and daughters have experienced, I found it comforting to know he worst complaint was he was hungry for some home-type items. The power of prayer. It feels like the weight of the world was lifted off my shoulders Semper Fi!
- April 27, 2003: From Tracy, Marine Friend to Tom of San Diego, CA
(3/1 India 3rd Plt) He called! Tom finally called on Sunday (4/27). He sounded so good. He is hinting to me that he should be home in a few weeks, not too much longer. He made a reference for me to understand and I believe it will be soon! WOOHOO! and Oohrah! So if anyone else has someone with 3/1 India, take comfort that our men are okay. Not one of the brothers was killed and just a few were injured. That is great news! Hang in there!
- April 27, 2003: From Carol, Marine Mom to Ryan of Clarkston, MI
(3/1 India Co) Wanted to let you know we have heard from Ryan - Got a phone call this past Sunday (4/27). What a wonderful day! He sounded good, said he was fine and that he would be able to call again soon. They'd be coming home soon! He has not received his mail - still hasn't gotten many of my letters or the packages sent. The mail is trickling in for our Marines. Ryan has received a few things to date so, when it does finally catch up to them I'm sure they will be overwhelmed with all of it. I hope others have heard from their Marines and if not yet, you will! God Bless!

- April 27, 2003: From Jamie, Marine Sister to Eugene (Gene) of Sunrise, FL
(3/4 Lima Company 2nd Plt) We finally heard from him today! When mom heard his wife's voice on the other end of the phone...she knew! Mom came running down the stairs with a trail of tears behind her, "He's coming home! He's coming home!" That was three hours ago, and I just finished calling all our friends and family to share the great news. I thank God for their support and their prayers. And for those of you whose heroic loved ones haven't called yet just know that as they are protecting all of us we are protecting them as well with our prayers, our strength, and our love. God Bless The U.S AND OUR MARINES!!!!

- April 23, 2003: From Tracy, Marine Mom to Derrick of Columbia, MO
(3/4 India Co) Received a phone call from Derrick Wednesday at 11:49 a.m. CST. He said they are now South of Baghdad and packing up to go to Kuwait. Hope to be in Kuwait in 7 days. Will wait in Kuwait for transport out; possibly 5 days. Hope to be in sunny California by about Mid-May and be able to take 21 days off in early June. They've gotten tons of packages. He had gotten a camera and taken lots of photos in Baghdad. Was in great spirits and anxious to get home. Requested to stop the packages but to send newsy letters instead. Wanted to know how much money was in his account to make sure he could get an airline ticket home and another to North Carolina to talk to his Grandpa, a Vietnam Vet. He said he had a lot of stories to tell. We talked almost 15 minutes. I am so relieved and continue to pray that God brings our Marines home safely and that it really will be Mid-May.
- April 22, 2003: From Karla, Marine Mom to Jeff of Florence, KY
(3/7 Lima) Yesterday, I got a phone call from a Michael Phillips, Wall Street Journal reporter, who was embedded with my son's troop, the 3rd Battalion, 7th Marine Division, Lima Company & just arrived back in the States. He called me to say my son was fine & healthy (I had pestered him in the past!), and that our Marines were heading south. He said the boys were in good health, no losses. He also promised the boys he would meet up with them at 29 Palms to party when they get back to the states! I hope to go there too, and was wondering if any other Moms would go, we could meet up and stay together, or get rides together from the airport when that time comes. Michael also said he had pictures he would post on the web and would let me know when he did so. It was great to hear from him. Feel free to post this on your web site, Tracy, for the 3/7 Infantry Moms and to give out my email address in case some others would like to fly out to 29 Palms.
- April 18, 2003: From Scooter & Pam, Marine Parents to Jeptha of Slidell, LA
(3/4 Kilo Co Weapons Plt) Jeptha called on Good Friday, oh what a Good, "Good Friday". We were not home but he left a message on the voice mail. He said "Mom you can stop worrying because I am safe". He said he was .... in Baghdad and would be going back to Kuwait in a day or two. He thinks he will be coming back to the states in about a month or so. He said he got a bunch of our care packages all in one week. He stuffed as much as he could in his back pack and shared the rest with his buddies. We were extremely disappointed to miss this call but we still have it saved on our voice mail and can listen to it as often as we like.
- April 18, 2003: From Tina, Marine Mom to Ross of San Jose, CA
We just talked to our son calling from north of Baghdad! He has been on convoy security with CSSB 10 (Twentynine Palms) since the start of the war. They have been as far north as Tikrit, but are now just holding a compound. The word they get is that the Marines are going to start moving back south in a week or so. They were told that Washington wants the Marines back home by the 4th of July. Wouldn't that be great! God Bless the Marines!
- April 11, 2003: From Linda, Marine Mom to Greg of Pittsburgh, PA
(H&S Co. 2/23) Recieved a call from our son Greg on April 11. He sounded GREAT and was hopeful they would be home before July! We were so excited and encouraged to hear from him. The call came in from the United Nations in Baghdad at @ 10:45 PM. Of course I did most of the talking through tears of joy mixed with concern and relayed to him of the support back at home. Our prayers go out to all the Marines and their families. Thank you for your website!!
