As an organization that was founded online, the internet has always played a significant role in what we've been able to accomplish over the years, particularly in terms of providing people "a Place to Connect & Share®. Initially, that was done on our message board, but over the years, as the scope and prevalence of social media has expanded, we first created our own social media site, Marine Family Network (MFN) and, more recently, we've become increasingly active on Facebook. Maintaining the standards we've set, ensuring Operational Security (OPSEC) compliance, and providing accurate, up-to-date information is an incredibly time-consuming task, and would be impossible without the hard work and dedication of our Online Support Service volunteers.
Since 2004, more than 3,000 volunteers around the country have dilligently watched over the message boards and then MFN, providing information, comfort, and companionship during unsure and trying times. Their commitment to excellence has seen MFN grow from a few dozen members in the early days, to nearly 50,000 today.
While we've been on Facebook for years, we didn't establish Official MarineParents.com Facebook Groups as a Place to Connect & share until January of 2015. The initial response has been overwhelmingly positive. In just four short months, we already have more than 50 trained volunteers active on Facebook, with dozens more waiting in the wings to undergo training.
We would like to take this opportunity to once again thank our amazing Online Support Service volunteers. Your dedication is inspiring and congratulations on a job well done!
